Garbage Collection
The Town of Castor has recently signed a three year contract with
Waste Services Inc. for the collection and disposal of residential and
commercial garbage.
Under the new contract the following rules for garbage pickup will
apply:
Bag Limit: Each residence is allowed only 5 bags of
garbage. The bags must not weigh more than 50 pounds or 22.68 kilograms
which is mandated by Occupational Health and Safety.
Residential Waste: Residential Waste does not include
construction materials of any kind, furniture, electronics,
refrigerators, stoves, dishwashers, paints and other liquids.
Waste Enclosures: If you use a waste enclosure in which you
store garbage bags make sure they are acceptably maintained and easily
accessible.
Pick – Up: Residential and non-bin commercial
garbage is picked up on Thursdays. Garbage should be put out by 8:00
A.M.
Waste Services Inc. has agreed to work with the
Town while residents are getting accustomed to the new rules. If you

The Castor and District Agricultural Society
has been informed that a grant in the amount of $500,000.00 has been
approved under the Major Communities Facilities Program.
Minister Lindsay Blackett, Minister of Culture and Community Spirit
informed the Town of Castor of the grant on April 20th, 2009.
The Agricultural Society is in the process
of finalizing tender documents for the projects. |

Five Year Capital Plan |
|
The Five Year Capital Plan has been appended by Council. In 2007 the Town of Castor Capital Budget will be $389,000.00. The expenditure will be made in the following areas: Administration $2,000.00
Fire Prot./Ambulance 79,000.00
Transportation
70,000.00 Water
10,000.00
Cemetery
2,000.00 Land Development 140,000.00 Recreation
86,000.00

2009
Operational & Capital Budget |
|
On April 27th, 2009 the Town of Castor approved the operational and
capital budget for 2009. Total operational expenditures for 2009 is
estimated at $3,363,044.00. Capital budget has been set at
$1,594,755.00. Some of the capital projects are contingent
on approval from grant applications. One of the capital
projects calls for the rehabilitation of 4 blocks of watermain on 51st
Street, 52nd Street, and 51st Ave. The total cost is
estimated at $577,750.00. The Federal and Provincial
Government contribution if the grant is approved would be 1/3 each.
The final work on the two residential subdivisions will be completed at
a cost of $388,000.00. Other capital projects include
renovations to the Fire Hall/Ambulance Building, Equipment Purchases,
Doctor Housing, as well as recreation equipment.
The Town of Castor total line assessment increase from 2008 which has
resulted in the lowering of the mill rates. The 2007 and
2008 increase in construction and the housing market created the change
in the assessment. Most residence and businesses will not
see any major change in property tax from 2008 unless they had a major
renovation or addition to their buildings. |

Notice of Preparation of the Assessment Roll - 2009 |

Notice is hereby
given that the Assessment Roll of the said Town of Castor made under the
Provisions of Section 311 of the Municipal Government Act,
Statutes of Alberta 2000, Chapter M-26 has been prepared and will be
open to inspection at the office of the Chief Administrative Officer of
the Municipality during business hours and that any person who desires
to object to the entry of his/her name or that of any other person upon
the said roll or to the Assessed Value placed upon any property must,
within Thirty (30) Days from the date of this notice, lodge his/her
complaint (s) in writing to the Chief Administrative Officer of the Town
of Castor. Dated this 7th Day of May, 2009

Residential & Commercial Re-Development Policy |
