After over 5 years of planning and a lot of work
by municipalities the Town of Castor started to receive water from the
Shirley McClellen Regional Water Services Commission. The tap was
turned on August 17th, 2009. Town Staff spent many days flushing
out lines. S.M.R.W.S.C. looked after flushing and draining
reservoirs prior to the water being placed in the reservoirs.
The cost for water is $1.60 per cubic metre.
The Town's first billing is for the month of September.
At present it is not anticipated that there
will be any increases in water rates to Castor customers. The
cost of purchasing water to the cost of producing water are very close to
breaking even. If an increase is necessary it will be to
increased pumping costs, or maintenance and repairs.
Now that water is purchased it is more
important than ever if a resident sees or suspects that there is a watermain
break to contact the Town as quickly as possible. |
